(Waltham, MA, October 19, 2012) – RESOLVE New England has named New Hampshire State Senator Matthew Houde their 2012 Legislator of the Year. Celebrating the achievements of Senator Houde for his advocacy efforts on behalf of the infertility community of New Hampshire, the Senator will receive his award at RESOLVE New England’s Annual Paths to Parenthood Fertility, Donor Choices and Adoption Conference on Saturday, November 3, 2012 in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
In May 2012, Senator Houde was instrumental in helping to preserve access to fertility treatments for infertility patients in New Hampshire. By advocating for the veto of New Hampshire House Bill 217, Senator Houde helped ensure that couples facing infertility in New Hampshire can continue to get the access to the fertility treatments they need to build their families.
“We applaud all the legislators and officials who recognized that House Bill 217 was not medically sound nor grounded in medical science,” said Erin Lasker, Executive Director of RESOLVE New England. “We especially thank Senator Houde for his unique commitment to and vigilance for the infertility community of New Hampshire and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize him as the RESOLVE New England Legislator of the Year.”
Senator Houde currently represents New Hampshire’s Fifth District. Senator Houde graduated from Hanover High School and Dartmouth College. Since graduating from the University of Connecticut Law School, he has practiced law in both Connecticut and New Hampshire. He currently serves as Senior Community Communications Specialist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
The Paths to Parenthood Conference will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Senator Houde will accept his award between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The conference opens at 8:00 a.m. and runs for the full day, with over 40 educational workshops, concluding at 5:00 p.m. Information about individual sessions and registration fees is available at www.allpathsfb.org/conference.
