RESOLVE New England Peer Leader and 2012 Volunteer of the Year
About 7 years ago, I learned about RESOLVE New England (RNE) through a friend after I shared that I was going to begin infertility treatments. I was newly married, had just turned 35 and was scared that I would never fulfill my dream of becoming a mom. She told me about RNE and how the organization had helped her through her experience with infertility. I went home and immediately joined hoping to learn more about the process. I had no idea at the time how much RNE would be a support for my husband and me.
During my first year of membership I went to workshops, read their literature, joined a support group and attended the Annual Conference with my husband. I met countless people going through a similar process and found such warmth and compassion from those who just “get it.” Without all of that, I don’t know how I would have made it through the challenging process of infertility and then go on to choose egg donation as our path to parenthood.
It has been four years and five months since I became a parent through egg donation. You could say that I have finally resolved my quest for parenthood – so why do I continue to be involved with RESOLVE New England? Why do I renew my membership every year, volunteer to lead a peer discussion group about egg donation each month, speak at workshops and on panels at the conference and offer my support to RNE in any way I can?
In short: why do I believe in RNE?
Because I am so grateful to this organization for just being there when I needed support and information.
I did not ever feel like just a statistic in the infertility world, as it can be so isolating. By reaching out to RNE for help, I was able to get through a very difficult period in my life and I just want to help do the same for others. RESOLVE New England is in existence because of very caring, supportive, giving people who want those going through infertility to know that they are not alone.
I will continue to support RESOLVE New England each year because this is one organization that has heart and gives so much to help others in need.
I am so proud to be a part of that heart.
